Indian Exhibition Industry is estimated to be approximately INR 25,000 crore and over 700 major Trade Shows are held annually.
Hyderabad, May 10, 2018…….The 8th IEIA Open Seminar, the Annual International Conclave of the Indian Exhibition Industry kicked off here in the city at Hitex Exhibition Center Today.
Speaking on the occasion B. Venkatesham, Principal Secretary of Tourism, Govt of Telangana informed that India’s biggest and the first of its kind of Exhibition cum multipurpose Convention Hall will come up at Hitex. It will be pillar less hall built fast at a cost of Rs 125crores and that can accommodate 8000 pax. It will be ready by the end of December 2018, he informed.
Adding more details about it KV Nagendra Prasad, COO Hitex said, it is the first time in India that both Exhibition and Convention facilities are combined in a single hall. It will be the state of the art, technically very superior convention hall which will become an iconic structure in the country. The hall will be suitable for all kinds of events including sporting events. This will be the most modern MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) facility with equally spread temperature with all connections such as electricity etc embedded in the floor.
HITEX will expand further its infrastructure in the next year. And the details are yet to be finalised, he added.
Burra Venkatesham added that though India is 3rd largest economy in the world, but stands poorly at 31st position in terms of exhibition industry turnover.
MICE is nice he added. You are in good city. It is centrally located geographically. It is the city where North meets South, East touches West. It is a traditional yet technological city. Modernity meets heritage in this city, he said.
Addressing the gathering LC Goyal, CMD of India Trade Promotion Organisation(ITPO), the premier trade promotion agency of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt of India, said ITPO is the nodal agency of the Government of India. ITPO owns and manages the Pragati Maidan Exhibition Complex which is the largest exhibition centre in India. We have become IEIA member last month he said. And added that ITPO is coming out with the single window clearances for exhibition organisers both within and outside Pragati Madan. He explained modernisation program of Pragati Maidan. He also announced that they are setting up New Delhi Convention & Exhibition Bureau to Promote New Delhi as the preferred exhibition destination.
He also informed that they are building a modern convention hall in Pragathi Maidan Delhi. It will come upon 50,000 Sq meter area and will accommodate 7000 pax.
Further LC Goyal said, Govt of India wants exhibition industry to be significant player in the Indian growth story.
During the inaugural function LC Goyal and B. Venkatesham unveiled Indian Exhibition Industry Survey Report.
IEIA signed and exchanged agreements with six international professional bodies which include: RUEF-Russian Union of Exhibitions & Fairs; Korean Exhibition Organisers Association; Southern African Association of Convention; Spanish Trade Fair Association; Central East European Exhibition Organisers’ Club.
Welcoming the gathering Bhupinder Singh, Secretary of IEIA said in India, the exhibition industry is in a dynamic state. Brand New, world class trade fairs venues are under rapid construction. Old ones are being aggressively renovated and existing ones are adding more space. These moves guarantee a much needed boost to our Industry.
The two day annual event is organised by Indian Exhibition Industry Association, 180 members strong apex body of exhibition organisers in India. The theme of the meet was “Converge & Connect”. 600 delegates from 30 countries and 35 International Professional bodies are participating.
The event brought together Global Exhibition Industry leaders from over 30 countries.

IEIA Open Seminar is the annual international conclave of Indian Exhibition Industry organized by Indian Exhibition Industry Association(IEIA) and hosted by HITEX Exhibition Center, Hyderabad this year
IEIA is the apex body of the Indian Exhibition Industry representing Trade Fair Organizers, Service Providers and Venue Owners in the country. The Indian Exhibition Industry plays a big role in impacting economies – be it local, state or national.
With an estimated industry size of approximately INR 25,000 crore and over 700 major Trade Shows annually, it is growing at a rate of 8.8% per year.
Speaking at the conclave, Mr. K V Nagendra Prasad, President, IEIA said the Open Seminar is a prominent event that brings together the Indian Exhibition Industry leaders with their global counterparts to discuss trends, challenges, opportunities and breakthroughs.
IEIA Open Seminar 2018’s theme “Converge & Connect” puts the spotlight on the importance of working together and networking among all the stakeholders, globally. With more and more organizations entering the industry, there is a greater need to collaborate and ensure their common growth, which in turn will boost the growth of the Industry.
Over 600 leaders from the Global Exhibition Industry including the top management of all major global forums related to exhibition industry viz.UFI – The Global Association of Exhibition Industry, International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE),Asian Federation of Exhibitions and Convention (AFECA), BRICS MICE Forumand heads of major exhibition organizations came together with the members of IEIA for three days packed with informative and interactive sessions.
IEIA Open Seminar 2018 featured presentations by who’s who of the Exhibition Industry, Panel Discussions, Exhibition Services Expo,Business Match Making,Young Professionals Meetup, IEIA Awards and Certified in Exhibitions Management (CEM) Graduation Ceremony along with many international concurrent events.
During the event 3rd batch students who completed CEM—Certificate Course in Exhibition Management were presented certificates. Also the first ever Exhibition Industry Awards are presented.
Several Exhibition industry related companies set up stalls. The noted among them include: Royal Fashion which exhibited eco- friendly deleagate cloth badges; another exhibitor showcased digital solutions for weddings; the Flag Company exhibited flags for various events; several convention centres showcased their infrastructure and facilities and Acterm created awareness about Academy of Convention, Trade Fair, Event Management education etc.
